1 millionth KTM off the band in India

The cooperation that KTM entered into with Bajaj in 2011 has certainly benefited the Austrians. The 1 millionth KTM recently rolled off the line at the Bajaj factory in India, a 390 Adventure.

In the first years things did not really go smoothly and the quality occasionally left something to be desired, but nowadays the production of the ‘little one’ KTM is ongoing (all KTM 125-200-390 models as well as the Husqvarna 124-401 models) in the Bajaj production facility in Chakan like a train.

Since the production of the above-mentioned engines, developed in consultation with Bajaj, started in India, 1 million have left the line, which amounts to more than 80,000 units per year. To give you an idea: that’s more than the total production of Ducati and also more than that of Triumph.

Now those 1 million KTMs in 12 years are small beer compared to the production of Bajaj itself, which is one of the world’s largest players with 18 million bikes a year sold in 79 countries worldwide. In any case, the world’s most favorite Indian motorcycle manufacturer. Two out of every three motorcycles sold internationally have a Bajaj badge.

Stefan Pierer, CEO of PIERER Mobility AG:

“This is indeed a momentous occasion for both PIERER Mobility and Bajaj Auto. Our success is based on four pillars: globalization, constant innovation, motivated employees and established brands.

As Europe’s leading manufacturer of powered two-wheelers, we have the right partner in Bajaj with the same passion to deliver such successful services together. This gives us confidence for the future.”
