5 tips to extend the battery life of your Apple Watch

Does your Apple Watch drain quickly and do you have to hang your smart watch on the charger very often? There are some tips to extend the battery life of your watch. We list the best tips.

1. Turn off the screen

If you have an Apple Watch Series 5 or later, the screen of your watch is always on by default. So you no longer have to tap the screen or move your wrist to see the time. Although Apple has already made some adjustments to the screen to prevent your watch from draining quickly, it may be worth turning off the so-called Always On function.

To do this, open the Settings app on your watch and tap Screen and brightness† Scroll down and tap Always on to turn this feature off.

2. Dark Mode and Brightness

Many devices now have a dark mode. This is not only better for your eyes if you still use your phone or laptop in the evenings, but it also saves energy.

The Apple Watch doesn’t have a specific dark mode, but you can opt for a black watch face. You can do this by tapping the Watch app on your iPhone to the tab Dials to go.

You can also lower the brightness of your screen in the Watch app. This also saves energy.

Opt for a dark dial to save energy.

3. Fewer notifications

Notifications also consume energy, which applies to both your smartphone and your smart watch. All notifications you receive on your iPhone are standard on your Apple Watch, but you can change that by going in the Watch app to Notification† You can adjust notifications per app.

4. Don’t take calls

With an Apple Watch you can take calls, but if you have long conversations, this has a significant impact on the battery life of your watch. Take a call with your iPhone.

5. Power Savings in Workouts

The battery of your watch runs out faster when you do a workout, partly due to the heart rate monitor that runs overtime. You can switch on a power-saving mode while exercising, so that the battery in your watch lasts longer.

You can also do this with the Watch app on your iPhone by going to the Workoutmenu and flip the switch at Power Saving† Your watch will then still keep track of your sporting performance, but it will no longer measure your heart rate.

The Apple Watch has a function to save power during a workout.
