Abdominal massage for adults: this is how it works

  1. Lie on your back and place your hand in the middle of your stomach.
  2. Now slowly stroke your belly button clockwise. Whenever possible, the entire palm of your hand should touch your stomach.
  3. Apply light pressure as you massage. If, for example, you feel the blockages in your stomach with your hand when you have flatulence, you can increase the pressure a little in these areas.
  4. However, the pressure should never be so high that pain occurs. Instead, slide your hand as gently and evenly as possible.

Tip: In order to stimulate your bowel additionally, you can stroke your stomach several times with the flat of your hand before and after the circular massage.

For babies and children, you should create the same basic requirements as for a massage for adults. So make sure that your baby is lying comfortably and flat on a soft surface. Put some baby cream on your stomach and make sure your hands are soft and warm. Then follow the steps below:

  1. Especially with babies, you should just rest your hands on your stomach at first so that your child can get used to the contact.
  2. Now stroke your navel clockwise with the palm of your hand.
  3. You should carefully hold babies in the hip area with your other hand.
  4. Repeat the flowing circular movement about ten times and sometimes apply more, sometimes less pressure. Make sure that the pressure is never too strong so that your child doesn’t feel any additional pain.
  5. Now move your hand in small, selective circular movements around the navel.
  6. Again, do about ten repetitions.
  7. Then you just put your index, middle and ring fingers together and bring them around the navel again in quick, tapping movements. Apply a little more pressure here too.
