Apple Watch Series 7 officially unveiled
The Apple Watch Series 7 is the successor to the Watch Series 6. The new member of Apple’s smartwatch family has been given a similar appearance. The case of the new Apple Watch is somewhat rounder, but has almost the same look.
More screen, less border
The screen of the Apple Watch Series 7 has been improved. The screen is larger, because there is now less bezel present. In addition, the screen is a lot brighter and it has an IP6X certification. A nice swim or walking on the beach during a stormy day is therefore no problem.
The glass on the front of the Apple Watch Series 7 is also stronger. It is about 50 percent thicker than that of the Apple Watch Series 6.
Along with the larger screen, Apple has also added a full-sized keyboard. This makes typing easier by swiping your finger over the letters on the screen.
New watch faces
The Apple Watch Series 7 gets some new watch faces that use the larger screen. For example, one of the dials shows the Earth with all 24 time zones at once.
Two new sizes: 41 mm and 45 mm
Furthermore, Apple has increased the dimensions of the case to 41 and 45 millimeters (mm). This is a tad bigger than the previous generation. The Apple Watch Series 6 was available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. That’s neat: your old straps can be used on the new Watch.
Apple Watch Series 7 colors
The new Watch is again available in various colors. This time, Apple has opted for five new colors, including midnight (black), starlight (grey), green, blue and (PRODUCT)RED. In addition, two Nike variants of the Apple Watch Series 7 are available.
Faster charging
The Apple Watch Series 7 also has support for fast charging. This means your Watch is ready for use faster. According to Apple, your smartwatch is charged 33 percent faster. With a fully charged battery you can do about eighteen hours.
Updates for cyclists, workouts and fall detection
The new watchOS 8 (released on September 20) also has new features for cyclists (and e-bikes!). For example, the Apple Watch Series 7 can detect when you start a ride. You will also be asked if you want to start a workout. The workouts also pause automatically when you want to rest for a while.
Since 2018, Apple has already had fall detection on Apple Watch. Fall detection has been updated in watchOS 8 and optimized for training falls, including cycling.
Price and availability
Usually, the announced products can be ordered the Friday after the Apple event. This year, Apple has only said that the new Apple Watch Series 7 will be available in the fall.
Unfortunately, the Dutch prices are not yet known. We know the American prices. The old Apple Watch Series 3 gets a price cut to $399. Just like the Apple Watch SE that will cost $279. The new Apple Watch Series 7 starts at $399.
