Back to Basics: Audi Q7

Where diesels were often presented as a cheaper choice by the Dutch bpm system in larger SUVs, Audi makes a smart move by offering a plug-in hybrid Q7. That saves € 11,000 with a diesel and even € 20,000 with a petrol version. In terms of equipment, however, it does not matter, because the Pro Line is always the entry-level.

Audi Q7 55 TFSI e Pro Line € 85,530

The plug-in hybrid is – as is to be expected – the cheapest choice at Audi when it comes to the Q7. Remarkable fact: of the regular Q7s, this is also the strongest version. With a combined power of 381 hp, the 55 TFSI e leaves the TDIs behind (good for a maximum of 286 hp). If you still have some money in your pocket and are looking for more power, you can turn to Audi for the 60 TFSI e with 456 hp (from € 106,950) or the SQ7 with 507 hp (from € 157,060). The price list is also very clearly structured. Three trim levels are available for all four basic engines: the Pro Line, Pro Line Plus and the Pro Line S. For the 55 TFSI e, the extremes of these levels yield a price difference of just under € 8,000. Time to see if extra money is worth it.

Exterior

With such an asking price of over € 85,000, it is obviously not the question whether facilities such as air conditioning or cruise control are available, but the luxury from which owners can choose. Take the outside. As with all other versions, this ‘Night Black’ paint color is the only color that does not have an extra cost. Various decorative items, such as the bumper at the door or the frame around the grille, are also painted in a silver-gray color. However, the Pro Line can be recognized by the black frames around the windows and the dark roof rails. In terms of wheels, Audi offers two options, always 18-inch. The difference is only in a five or ten-spoke design. However, this Q7 only gets parking aid in the rear bumper. To get them also on the front of the big nose, Audi charges an extra € 547. A reversing camera then costs another € 664 extra.

Interior

Inside the Q7 it is again in the details. Take the upholstery. Audi has a whole range of leathers available for this. As a Pro Line we have to make do with the ‘Twin’ kind. It is available in a ‘Metropolis’ gray color (photos), but also in black. Prices for other leathers can, however, be quite expensive. The most exclusive variety costs € 5,601. The front seats can be adjusted as standard (including lumbar support). The Q7 is equipped with a multifunctional leather steering wheel, but it cannot be heated electrically (+ € 307.34). The wide dashboard has a central screen as standard for operating the MMI Navigation Plus system. The virtual cockpit is included. A Bang & Olufsen sound system, however, is not. It costs again – are you sitting? – € 8,613. Because the plug-in hybrid is the cheapest, ‘our Q7’ gets climate control that can be divided over three zones. With the other Pro Lines this is only possible over two zones.

So in the basic version you are fine. However, the options list has 35 pages. With that you can make it as crazy as you want. Take, for example, a comfort key that automatically sets everything to the driver’s wishes (+ € 1,387), a DVD player (+ € 211) or 21-inch wheels (+ € 4,187).
