Apple has definitively canceled the iPhone SE 4, which was supposed to be released in 2023 or 2024. That is what a well-known analyst claims. Bad news for those looking for a modern, but cheaper iPhone.
‘iPhone SE 4 cancelled’
A few weeks ago, the well-known analyst reported Ming Chi Kuo that Apple would postpone the iPhone SE 4 to 2024 or even cancel it. He is now more sure of his case: the next affordable iPhone will no longer be available.
The new iPhone SE had to be a major upgrade compared to the current model. Instead of a 4.7-inch screen with thick bezels, the device would be based on the iPhone XR from 2019. It had a 6.1-inch LCD display with thinner bezels and Face ID. In addition, the phone would get a faster chip again.
We don’t know why Apple (probably) canceled the iPhone SE 4, but we can guess. The cheaper iPhones have not been selling very well lately. This applies to the iPhone SE 2022, but also to the iPhone 14 Plus, from which much was expected. It seems that most people prefer to go for more advanced Pro models and are also willing to pay for them.
Will the iPhone 15 (Plus) be cheaper?
To make the iPhone 15 (Plus) more attractive, Apple would consider a price reduction. Both devices may be $ 100 cheaper than their predecessors. This makes the difference with the Pro devices greater. That may be another reason for Apple to cancel the iPhone SE 4: if the ‘regular’ iPhone becomes cheaper, there will be less need for a real budget model.
