Can I become a pilot even if I have completed BSO?

I am 20 years old and would love to become a pilot! Now I’ve heard that pilot training can go up to 80,000 euros. (registration fee and the like). Now I have been looking for a while and apparently TuiFly offers the same training but for 30,000 euros. Now my question. Is it possible, for example, that I can spread this amount over 8 years and thus finance this training? And isn’t 29-30 years too old to start such an education? I really want to be this so bad, but my current financial situation doesn’t allow me to apply for credit from a bank. And to be honest, even if this was possible, I would not opt for it because I am not much in favor of borrowing money. Hopefully someone could help me with my question, because if I tell / ask other people I am not taken seriously. BEST REGARDS

Answer

Best,

You really want to be a pilot, but you are not sure if you have the skills? Indeed, before investing a lot of money in training, you need to have some sort of assurance that you have the skills to be a pilot, physically, mentally and intellectually. I see two possibilities.

a) offer yourself to a company. They will screen you. Do not go directly to a training center.

b) join a flying club. Many clubs have internal training programs. They can bring you up to the level of private pilot or ULM pilot with minimal costs. The Belgian private or ULM exam and the medical screening are in many ways almost the same as the professional pilot exam. If you succeed, you have already taken a step in the right direction. see https://www.vvmv.be/vliegclubs
