Good lighting is important for your own safety and that of other road users. Therefore, regularly check all lamps to see if they are still working properly. And if one of the headlights goes out, you may need help from the garage.
Replacing a light was a job that you could easily do yourself until a few years ago. There was usually a set of spare lights in your car and with a bit of fiddling the light was replaced in no time. Today, however, this is no longer so easy, because the engine compartment is getting fuller and you can no longer reach the lamp unit. Before starting, it is important to know what kind of relief you have. Xenon lighting works under high voltage and it is not wise to work on it yourself. Bosch Car Service’s advice: stay away from it and take it to the garage. Many new and almost new cars have LED lighting and if there is a problem with that, you better also go to the garage. The LED is integrated in the headlight unit, so it is not a matter of adding another light. Only if a halogen lamp has failed, replacement can often still be done yourself.
Job
You do run the risk of a few dirty hands and it is really not as simple as you might be used to. Take a good look in the booklet of the car how to approach it, because it is often quite a job. Then you do not have to be under the hood, for example, but you have to go to the lamp unit via the inner screen of the mudguard. And then also by touch, because it is difficult to see. H4 or H7?
It is good to know if you need an H7 or an H4 bulb before you start. An H7 bulb has one function: dipped beam or high beam. An H4 bulb has two functions: low beam and high beam. In the booklet of the car you will find which lamp belongs to your car. And then it is a matter of putting in another light. Only if a halogen lamp has failed, replacement can often still be done yourself.
