Difference in addition between the latest versions of the lease car

When choosing a new car, you as a business driver often receive a budget from your employer. This is then a monthly lease amount or a maximum car price. With that in mind, your search process for a new lease car begins. Which car brands can you choose and which engine or version do you choose?

The financial limit is regularly explored, can you choose whether or not to choose that stronger engine or select that more luxurious version? Usually you can not choose everything that catches your eye, but what if you can choose the thickest, most expensive, fastest version once? Which model would you select?

The Business Drivers Association has made an overview of the best-selling lease cars in the premium class of the past six months. First of all, we looked at the addition amount that belongs to the cheapest variant. But we also looked at what the top model would cost in terms of addition. Those differences are sometimes significant!

Tesla Model 3

With some models, there is not much to choose from. For example, look at the Tesla Model 3 and BMW i3. Fewer engine variants are available with these fully electric models. You can only choose from a slightly stronger electric motor (BMW i3) or an extra electric motor (Tesla Model 3). This explains why the difference between the cheapest and most expensive BMW i3 is only € 9 net addition per month. The difference is also only 14 hp: 170 hp for the entry-level i3 and 184 hp for the sportier i3s. With the Tesla Model 3, there is already more choice in terms of motorization. You can choose the 306 hp basic version or a 490 hp Performance version. As a result, the addition amount already differs more, namely € 107 between the cheapest and most expensive version.

Where there are almost no options available with the Tesla Model 3, BMW can shop to your heart’s content in the options list. And because factory options count for the addition, and because 22% addition must be paid above € 45,000, the monthly addition amount can still rise considerably. A warning is therefore appropriate.

Petrol versus diesel

When we arrive in the petrol / diesel domain, the differences between the most expensive and cheapest version increase considerably. Looking at the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and BMW 5 Series, the choice is huge. All three models start with an approximately 150 hp petrol engine. And the performance for the BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 increases to 340 hp. The addition amount also increases by € 272 for a 340 hp BMW M 340d xDrive or up to € 390 more addition per month for the 347 hp Audi A4 3.0 TDI Quattro tiptronic S4. It is striking that these top versions both have a diesel engine.

That does not apply to the BMW 5 Series. The most expensive, and also fastest, variant is a petrol variant, namely the M5 M xDrive with no less than 600 hp. You pay € 723 more for that than for the cheapest 518d with 150 hp.

Striking lease cars

The Volkswagen Passat and Audi E-tron are striking appearances in this comparison. The Passat stands out because the addition difference is a maximum of € 94. There is less to choose from the Volkswagen Passat than before. But rest assured, most sought after petrol, diesel and even hybrid models are in the price list.

The 100% electrically driving Audi E-tron is striking, because there is a maximum of € 176 between the cheapest and most expensive electric version. There are only two engine variants to choose from, namely a 313 hp or a 408 hp strong variant. But because there are various equipment levels for the E-tron, there is more variation and therefore also a larger addition difference of up to € 176 between the cheapest and most expensive choice. Incidentally, you can compose your Audi to your own specification. There is, according to good German custom, an extensive option list available.
