Dutchman Nyck de Vries wins first Formula E race

It is the first race of this Formula E season and the first FE victory for Nyck de Vries.

Where they only want to start driving the first races in Formula 1 at the end of March, they are a lot earlier in Formula E. A month earlier, to be precise. Friday evening was the first race in the seventh Formula E season. The Saudi Arabian Al-Diriyah was also the first night race of Formula E. Dutchman Nyck de Vries was on pole, after he also set the fastest time in the two practice laps.

He immediately managed to convert that pole position into a first Formula E victory for the 26-year-old Frisian. It wasn’t just any profit either; with a lead of no less than 4.1 seconds he managed to cross the line. Edoardo Mortara came in second, followed closely by Mitch Evans. De Vries’ teammate Stoffel Vandoorne came in almost ten seconds later than De Vries, in eighth place.

I’m still pretty chill, I don’t get why! I should be thrilled! It is my first Formula E win. I am very happy how everything has gone so far. It is very nice to be able to turn that into a race win, even if it was a difficult race. It sounds like a cliché, but it is true; thanks to everyone on the team who worked so hard for this.

Nyck de Vries after his win

De Vries does not have much time to enjoy and rest from this fantastic first race. The second race is scheduled for tomorrow. It is De Vries’s second year with the Mercedes-Benz EQ team. His last race was his best last season, when he finished second in Berlin’s last ePrix. In the end he finished eleventh in the drivers classification.

As a Belgian I am ashamed of stoffel… agree, from 15 to 8 ??? Due to crashes and sc. Maybe one day work in a factory. The only thing he has been able to do for years is to ride at a leisurely pace and stay out of trouble. After the gp2 nothing was done anymore .. e
