But the car will get there. And he’s getting weird.
Elon Musk joined Joe Rogan for the second time last night to have a good time
smoke a joint to chat. Of course there was no shortage of discussion material. The well-known virus prevailed, but after two hours Tesla was also discussed.
Joe Rogan likes a Tesla Roadster and asked Musk when it could be ordered. That turned out to be a difficult question for Elon Musk. After some hacking, he said he couldn’t pinpoint the exact time when the coronavirus slowed things down. It is clear (and understandable) that the Tesla Roadster is not at the top of the priority list.
Musk lists what does have priority: production of the Model Y must be increased, the German Gigafactory must be started and the Gigafactory in Shanghai must be expanded. The Cybertruck and the Semi also have priority. When all that is finished, Tesla will only focus on the introduction of the Roadster. To put it musically: dessert comes after the potatoes and vegetables.
The Tesla Cyber Truck was only unveiled in November, while we first saw the Roadster in November 2017. Joe Rogan therefore explicitly asks, “The Roadster comes before the Cyber Truck?” After some hesitation, Tesla’s big boss says, “We’d better do the Cyber Truck first.”
Joe Rogan and other interested parties will therefore have to be patient. To keep the enthusiasm in, Musk promises that this patience will be rewarded. The “base model” will pop to 100 in 1.9 seconds. However, it does not stop there. There will be an even more extreme version. According to Musk, it will use rocket technology. Musk previously indicated that the Roadster gets ten rocket engines and that it can float. Everyone else would be laughed at squarely at such statements, but Elon Musk usually does what he promises. We are very curious.
The whole two hours interview can be seen below. If you are only interested in Tesla you can flush to 1 minute 51.
