Facebook launches brand new Facebook Video app for Apple TV

Watching Facebook videos on your TV just got a whole lot easier for Apple TV owners. With the Facebook Apple TV app, the social network is releasing its first tvOS app.

Facebook Apple TV app now available

A few weeks ago, Facebook already announced plans for the Apple TV app. The service is only available for the fourth generation Apple TV and focuses entirely on video content. So you can’t scroll through your entire timeline like you do with the iOS app.

As soon as you start the app, the Facebook Apple TV app will show you various videos. These can come from your friends, pages you follow, or live broadcasts that are frequently viewed at the time.

The more you watch videos on Facebook, the better the algorithm will be tailored to your taste. This way you should see more and more videos that you really want to watch. The app is available for free download from today from the tvOS App Store on the Apple TV. The design is reminiscent of YouTube, where you scroll through large square surfaces with the Siri Remote.

A run-up to Facebook’s TV service?

While the Facebook Apple TV app is still relatively limited right now, this may change in the future. Facebook is said to be setting up its own TV service behind the scenes, for example by broadcasting live sports matches. For the time being, these are mainly aimed at the United States. YouTube is also launching its own TV service today, which is currently only available in the United States.
