Facelift for Renault Mégane Sedan

Renault has made a facelift on a body variant of the Megane that we do not know at all in the Netherlands. It is the Mégane Sedan that now returns with a sharpened front and a revised butt from the cutting table.

Highlights

  • Mégane Sedan back in line with Mégane Hatchback and Mégane Estate
  • New lighting and new bumpers
  • New infotainment system and new digital instruments
  • New TCe petrol engines
  • Not coming to the Netherlands

A year after the introduction of the current generation Renault Mégane Hatchback, the French brand introduced the Estate version of the model to the world. A few months after the debut of the most spacious Mégane variant, Renault expanded its international delivery range with a completely new Mégane Sedan. The four-door sedan laced with design elements of both the Megane and its bigger brother Talisman has never appeared in the Netherlands through official channels. At the beginning of this year, Renault presented the facelifted Mégane Hatchback and Mégane Estate to the world and now the Mégane Sedan is also under the knife.

First generation Renault Mégane Sedan

To be fair, the Megane Sedan has not been radically renewed. Like its hatchback and station siblings, the Megane Sedan will feature new Pure Vision LED headlamps with the distinctive C-shaped light signature. A new front bumper hangs at the bottom of the muzzle and the grille is also renewed. It is now made up of small chrome-colored segments. Indeed, as with the Mégane Hatchback and Mégane Estate. More minor adjustments come in the form of slightly reshaped wheel arch rims. At the bottom of the rear, Renault mounts a new rear bumper, one with trapezoidal integrated (fake) exhaust tailpipes.

Inside, the adjustments are also marginal. The renewed Mégane Sedan, like its sister models, is now also available with a new 7.0 to 10.2-inch digital instrumentation. On the middentunnel is a new 9.3-inch large screen that belongs to the infotainment system. The display is therefore considerably larger than the screen it replaces. Renault is adding new buttons to the steering wheel and the climate control buttons below the infotainment screen have also been revised. The renewed Mégane Sedan will also have new systems, including adaptive cruise control with stop & go function, an emergency braking system that now also recognizes pedestrians and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

Second generation Renault Mégane Sedan

The renewed Mégane Sedan will be available with a 115 hp 1.0 TCe three-cylinder and with a 140 hp version of the 1.4 TCe. Diesel is possible with a 115 hp 1.5 Blue dCi diesel machine. Unfortunately, the renewed Mégane Sedan is also not coming to the Netherlands.

Mégane-with-butt

In the Netherlands it was possible to step into a Megane Sedan for the first time in 1996. The first-generation Mégane saloon version remained on the market until 2003, when it was succeeded by the second-generation Mégane Sedan. Both sedan versions were not successful in terms of sales in the Netherlands. Sedans in the C-segment have not been popular models in the Netherlands for years. No sedan version of the Mégane III – which was launched in 2008 – was no longer carried under the Mégane flag, although the Fluence launched in 2009 – available elsewhere in the world as a non-EV – could more or less be seen as a replacement turn into. This renewed Mégane Sedan will also not get Dutch asphalt under its wheels. Still, the model is quite successful internationally. Since its market launch in 2016, the current Mégane Sedan has sold around 200,000 units worldwide.
