Facelifted Volkswagen Polo follows Golf

The Volkswagen Polo has been in its current form at Dutch dealers since 2017, which means that the car has reached about half of its intended career. Time for a facelift. Today we can show you the first pictures of the refreshed Volkswagen Polo.

Since the Dutch market introduction of the current sixth generation Polo, Volkswagen has hardly modernized the model. At least, optically. In recent years, Volkswagen has gradually added new engine versions to the range of the Polo, including the 150 hp 1.5 TSI and the 2.0 TSI, which supplies the Polo GTI with 200 hp. Soon the appearance of Volkswagens compact success number will also be modernized. It is striking that the car is chasing its big brother Golf in terms of design.

Although the optical changes are not earth-shattering at first glance, the facelift of the Polo seems to be a fairly drastic one for Volkswagen standards. Thus, the Polo gets a new face, with headlights that look more like the viewers of the Golf determine part of the renewed image. The light units also run a bit down into the bumper on the outside, where the current headlights are rather sleek and simplistic in shape. The chrome strip that was previously in the center of the grille and that optically continued into the headlights will soon be at the bottom of the grille, but will again continue into the headlights. Striking difference: in the Golf, that strip is located at the top of the part placed between the headlights that suggests that it is a grille. At the bottom of the snout of this snapped test specimen of the facelifted Polo, we observe a new bumper, which resembles the bumper that Volkswagen hangs in front of the Golf with R-Line package.

Volkswagen also uses the brush of innovation at the back of the Polo. Although Volkswagen suggests that the ‘square’ part of the rear light will soon overflow into the tailgate, that will not be the case. However, the rear light gets a new and – you guessed it – more segmented format, just like the Golf. Also new, and perhaps the biggest change: at the top, the rear lights get a new horizontal spur that does dive into the tailgate. Also seen from behind, the Polo will look more like the Golf. At the bottom of the buttocks of the Polo we see a renewed rear bumper and the compartment in which the number plate is housed is apparently given a different shape.

Inside, the changes will mainly relate to the arrival of a revised infotainment and the use of new materials. It is likely that the renewed Polo will have mild hybrid technology, although we do not dare to put our hand in the fire for it.
