With the AirPods Pro you get three different sizes of eartips, but how do you know which one suits your ears best? Apple has come up with the fit test for that and in this tip we show you how to choose the right ear tips for your AirPods Pro.
Fit test: this is how you choose the right AirPods Pro earbuds
The AirPods Pro have a completely new in-ear-like design, which is made possible by the extra rubber earplugs. You slide this into your ears, making noise suppression possible, among other things. Depending on the shape of your ears, you need to choose the right ear pad to fully enjoy your music. This way you choose the right AirPods Pro earbuds for the best fit.

Which earbuds do you get with the AirPods Pro?
The AirPods Pro comes standard with three sizes of ear pads. One set is already attached to the AirPods Pro as standard, while the other two come in a small package. There are three sizes in total: Small, Medium and Large.
To change them, simply pull the rubber cap off the AirPod and click one of the other sizes on it. Make sure the earbud is securely attached before you put the AirPod Pro in your ear. You will notice a click as soon as the ear pad is properly attached.
Choosing the right AirPods Pro earbud with the fit test
How do you know which ear pad suits your ears best? You can of course just try this to feel what fits and sounds good, but if you have doubts, Apple has devised the fit test for that. This Ear Tip Test checks whether the music sounds good with your currently set earbuds and whether your ears are completely sealed. You do this as follows:
- Make sure the earbuds you want to use are attached. Then put in your AirPods.
- On your iPhone, go to Settings> Bluetooth and tap the connected AirPods Pro on the blue i.
- Scroll down and tap the Fit test.
- Read the instruction and tap Continue.
- Make sure the AirPods Pro are properly seated and tap the play button.
- A sound is played that checks whether the ear cushions fit properly.
You can now see two different results. The green text Good sealing indicates that the pads fit well in your ears and the sound is optimal. You then have the right fit for your AirPods Pro. The orange text Adjust or try a different ear pad indicates that your ears are not completely closed and you better try a different pillow. The fit test gives a separate result for each AirPod Pro. Because not every ear is always the same, you can use a different cushion for one AirPod Pro as for the other ear.
Replace AirPods Pro ear pads
It is best to put the ear cushions that you are not using in the extra packaging in which they are also included and then keep them in the packaging of the AirPods Pro. If you do lose them, you can purchase replacement ear pads from Apple for a few euros. It is best to contact Apple Support for this.
