Flewn is one of the ‘Best New Games’ in the App Store. However, the app is better seen as an interactive story than a game.

The ocean disappears
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the ocean suddenly disappeared? That’s exactly what happens in Flewn. An old whale rises (literally) to save as much of the marine life as possible. On three stilts and with a village with fish on his back, he embarks on a long walk through the desert.
When you start the app, you get the choice: do you want to view Flewn as a story or play it as a game. If you choose the latter, you see the story from the point of view of a frog flying through the sky. You then have to make sure you eat enough insects, because that gives you energy to stay in the air.
Works best as a book
However, we recommend that you try Flewn as a moving book first. You can view the story by swiping the screen of your iPhone or iPad. Text is interspersed with a moving image of the whale moving through a beautiful landscape. It looks a bit like a Salvador Dalà artwork and the game Lumino City, which can also be downloaded for iOS. Here and there you have to turn your device, because Flewn takes place in both landscape and portrait mode.
On its journey, the whale encounters various animals on land. They must help the whale to survive. Soon you will fully empathize with the bearded mammal that does everything it can to bring life to safety on its back. The story is also quite short, so after about fifteen minutes you are through it.
