From iPhone to Mac: this is how you transfer FaceTime calls

Thanks to Apple’s slick ecosystem, you can move a lot of tasks from one device to another. With the arrival of iOS 16 and macOS Ventura, it is possible to transfer FaceTime calls from your iPhone to your Mac and vice versa. How? OMT editor Sabine is only too happy to explain that to you.

Have you started the FaceTime call on your iPhone but want to have your hands free? From now on you can seamlessly switch to your Mac. Do you still want to get back on track? Then you can easily transfer the conversation back to your smartphone. That’s how it works.

Start with the settings

It is important to know that both Bluetooth and WiFi must be switched on, both on your iPhone and on your Mac. Of course, you must be signed in with the same Apple ID on both devices. Then go to settings on your iPhone and press General. Then tap AirPlay and Handoff. Make sure that Handoff is enabled.

Handoff must also be enabled on your Mac in order to transfer FaceTime calls. On your Mac, go to the System settings and navigate to AirDrop and Handoff. Toggle the slider behind Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices in. You are now ready for the substitution trick!

This is how you transfer FaceTime from iPhone to Mac

The moment you have a FaceTime call, a notification will appear on your Mac, suggesting you move the call. When you see this on screen, tap or click on it to move the conversation. Couldn’t be simpler.

In the meantime, you get the option to adjust the settings for the camera, microphone and audio before you actually switch devices. On the device where you started the FaceTime call, you will see that the call has been moved. There you will also find the option to return the conversation to the original device.
