Genesis unveils X3 competitor GV70

Genesis has lifted a brand new SUV onto the podium. Hyundai’s luxury brand highlights all the details of the GV70, a brand new competitor to cars such as the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Genesis released the first photos of the GV70 at the end of October. The GV70 is the brand’s second SUV, a car that, unlike its big brother GV80, does not have to compete with cars like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. No, with the GV70, Genesis is targeting its smaller sister models, the X3 and GLC respectively, and SUVs like the Lexus NX and Lincoln Corsair. This time, Genesis is releasing more than just a bunch of images of the GV70.

For example, it is now also known which machines will power the GV70. The entry-level engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, a turbo block that distributes 304 hp and 422 Nm over the wheels. That can be both only the rear wheels and all four wheels. One step above the 2.5T is the 3.5T, a 3.5-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 380 hp and 540 Nm. This always four-wheel drive version helps the GV70 to a speed of 100 km / h in 5.1 seconds. Diesel is also possible with a 210 hp and 441 Nm strong 2.2 four-cylinder. Just like the 2.5T, this engine version is also available with both four- and rear-wheel drive. Each engine variant can be combined with a Sport Package that brings not only a range of black details, but also an electronically controlled differential lock, special wheels, sporty-looking bumper work and other tailpipes to the GV70.

Appearance

The GV70 is a real Genesis and that means that the SUV design fits neatly with its sister models. Like the GV70, G70, G80 and G90, the GV70 has two-layer headlamps separated by a strip of sheet metal. There is a large shield-shaped grille between the headlights. Just like the front, the lighting on the back is split up. Compared to the GV80, the GV70 has a flatter rear window and a more sloping roofline. The interior, like that of the other Genesis models already mentioned, is topped with a classic, but also somewhat minimalist design sauce. Striking details are the high wide center tunnel, the oval panel in which the controls are housed and the vents of the ventilation system running over the entire width of the cockpit.

Security systems

When it comes to active and passive safety systems, the GV70 is all right. Genesis makes a comprehensive package of systems available including Forward Collision Avoidance, active blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control that works together with the navigation system and Highway Driving Assist II, which allows you to drive semi-autonomously on the highway. Rear Cross Traffic Alert adds to that, as does Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Europe

Why the GV70 is interesting for Europe? The SUV with the letters ‘GV’ in the model name for Genesis Versatile may also be coming to our part of the world! Genesis is preparing for a European market launch. The G70, a sedan that also comes with a shooting brake, is particularly interesting for the European market. That opponent of cars like the BMW 3-series and Mercedes-Benz C-class cannot do it alone here. A medium-sized SUV is certainly a good fit. The G80 and G90, respectively competitors of cars such as the 5 and 7 series, will play a smaller role here.
