Genesis X Concept is a preview of sporty GT

Genesis has a taste for it. In a relatively short time, the still young brand presented various new models and with a brand-new study model, the brand looks ahead at what is to come. This is the Genesis X Concept, a coupe-shaped concept car with a fully electric powertrain.

In a relatively short period of time, Genesis changed its entire model range. The brand gave the GV70 a facelift, came up with the G80, added the GV70 and GV80 to its delivery range and will soon come with the G70 Shooting Brake and with a completely new G90, but also with a little brother of the Kia EV6. That the cake is far from over, the brand proves with this X Concept, an electric GT with which Genesis, among other things, fine-tunes its design.

The X Concept is clearly recognizable as Genesis. The study model carries the now well-known design language that the Koreans call Athletic Elegance. Characteristic details are the light units consisting of two horizontal stripes on both the front and rear. As with, for example, the G80, the headlights optically continue after the wheel arches, although the lighting for the X Concept is much flatter. With its huge shield-shaped grille, the study model also fits perfectly with the G80, GV80 and G90 in terms of design.

Genesis’ latest concept car is a slickly lined coupé, a body variant that the brand does not yet offer. The lines of the X Concept clearly elaborate on that of this week’s three-year-old Essentia Concept, which was said to be a production version. Think, among other things, regular side mirrors and handles and you have a new GT from Genesis in front of you.

At least as much work has gone into the interior as the exterior. The study model has a relatively minimalist interior in which – as in existing models of the brand – classic design with minimalism is combined. We see beautifully stitched brown and black leather and a large digital panel that completely covers the part in front of the driver. Not only the instruments, but also the infotainment system and almost any other necessary things are housed in it. Striking is the optically floating center tunnel and the Crystal Sphere Electronic Shift Lever that is incorporated in it, a ball-shaped unit with which you can choose the direction of travel. Genesis is still tight-lipped about the X Concept’s electric powertrain.
