Google Home and Bluetooth: you can do this

The Google Home and Google Nest speakers are not known for their sound quality. That’s why it’s good to know that you can pair them with Bluetooth speakers. In this way, the sound quality of your smart increases, while you can control the bluetooth speaker with your voice. In this article we explain how to do that exactly.

You can connect various smart speakers and the smart display from Google to bluetooth speakers that you probably have at home. When you open the Google Home application on your smartphone, find the Google Home or Nest device you want to pair with the external speaker. If you open the speaker by tapping it, you will see a gear icon at the top right. Tap on that too and scroll down on the next page until you come across the Default Music Speaker heading. If you then tap on that, you will see the option to pair with a Bluetooth speaker.

Now go to your bluetooth speaker, turn it on (you may have to plug it in first) and enable search mode so that both devices can find each other. You should see the speaker on your phone that you have just put in that mode. If you now tap on the speaker in question, the Google Home application will complete the installation.

Play sound via bluetooth speaker

If set up correctly, the Google Home or Nest speaker will now forward the sound to the Bluetooth speaker, if available. It is of course only available when the speaker is switched on, so there is a good chance that you have to perform that operation manually every time. Unfortunately, the Home speaker cannot do that for you. You can now still use voice commands against the Home speaker and thus change the sound or music of the Bluetooth speaker.

Use Google Home as a Bluetooth speaker

By the way, did you know that you can also use your Google Home or Nest speaker as a Bluetooth speaker? Handy for when there is something with the network or if you are somewhere where you do not have access to WiFi. By selecting the gear of the Home speaker again and then to Paired Bluetooth devices you can activate pairing mode. Then of course the Bluetooth connection on your smartphone must also be switched on. If that is the case, you can pair both devices and therefore also play music via Bluetooth.
