Note the fact that we say Dafje.
What must a car do to become the car of the year? A lot, especially convince the world and score on a few important points. The main issue, however, is that it concerns a car that comes from the year in question. This Daf 33, model of the 60s and 70s, is not exactly from 2019. And yet it is the car of the year for some people.
Those people are members of the NAMAC. The Dutch General Miniature Car Club. Model car manufacturers choose what they build, and that is not always the newest of the newest. Manufacturer Schuco released the Daf 33 this year in a scale of 1 to 18. This model car won the hearts of Dutch collectors.
According to the NAMAC it is a special model. Because it is just a good representation of the original Dafje. But also because, of course, as Dutch people, we can be very proud of Daf. And finally because nobody really expected that a German model car manufacturer would build another Daf 33 some 53 years after its market launch. The car went convincingly with the win.
That is the general classification and therefore the category “passenger cars, large scales”, the rest looks like this:
- 1:43 Passenger cars: Lincoln Continental “the matrix”, Greenlight Collectibles
- 1:43 Race & rally cars: Land Rover Defender 110 “Camel Trophy”, Almost Real
- 3 inch: Citroën CX, Norev
- 1: 43/50 Commercial vehicles: DAF CF Fire engine, Scale Masters
- 1:87 Passenger cars: Delahaye 165 V12 Cabriolet par Figoni & Falaschi, BoS Models
- 1:87 Commercial vehicles: DAF F1600 tilting cab, Artitec
- Large scales, racing and rally cars: Fiat 131 Abarth Rallye Monte Carlo 1978 Röhrl / Geistdorfer
And so the Daf 33 is suddenly very popular again. Secretly it is also simply the nicest product that ever came rolling out of Dutch factories. However?
Nice that attention is paid to this, everyone who loves model cars should go to the Namac fair in Houten!
@ martinus intermediate gas: agree! Been a number of years ago and you’re really looking forward to it !!
Nice model that 33, but that is also allowed for that price, almost 150 Euro.
The Daf 1600 from Artitec also has its charm, a bit of childhood sentiment because my parents used to have such a Daf. With a cabin that was completely crammed at some point with crams from De Telegraaf and kilos of filler to get through the MOT.
Mhh, I suddenly feel the need to purchase such a DAF.
No problem seems to me. For 150 euros you have one, I understand!
Years ago you had the entire Daf for 150 guilders, scale 1: 1 🙂
DAF is doing well with no less than three first places!
I think that Delahaye is also very nice, by the way.
