Sometimes it can be useful to hide some apps on Android. For example, because you do not want to see that you are using a specific app or because you simply like an overview on your smartphone. But how exactly do you do this? Unfortunately, not every smartphone offers the option as standard.
Before we can start, it is useful to first explain some terms. When we talk about the home screen, we mean the screen you see when you smartphone unlocks. It’s the screen where you see shortcuts and widgets to apps. Then we have the app drawer: this is the place where all apps are presented in a handy overview. Finally, the term launcher is still important. This is an app that extends the basic functions of an Android smartphone or tablet, so that in some cases you can hide apps.
Hide apps on Android
Apps can hide on android is not a standard functionality. Some phone manufacturers do offer the option in the app drawer. The launchers from Samsung and OnePlus do offer the function as standard. So if you have a phone from one of these two manufacturers, you don’t have to download an extra app for this. That saves another app on your phone.
Owners of a Samsungphone can hide apps by opening the app drawer first. At the top right you will find a menu button (the three dots in the search field), containing the Settings option. Scroll down until you find the option to hide apps. Now select the apps that you do not want to see in your default app drawer and then tap the left arrow to confirm your choices. You will find that arrow in the far left corner, at the top.
Do you have a phone from OnePlus? Then you can use the Hidden space. Open the app drawer and swipe from left to right once. On the left you will now see an icon appear on the screen. Keep swiping right until the Hidden space is open. Now press the plus sign at the top right and select the apps you want to have in the Hidden space. Are you done choosing? Then tap the check mark that you now see in the top right corner.
Hide apps with Microsoft Launcher
There are a number of launchers that offer similar functions. The Microsoft Launcher on Android is one of the better and most reliable launchers for hiding apps. Download the app from Google Play, wait for the installation to complete, then open the app drawer from the home screen. Tap the three dots in the top right corner and select the option to hide your applications. Click the blue button and then select the apps you would like to hide. When you’re done choosing, confirm your choice by tapping the blue button at the top.
