How to return a purchase via Apple Pay

Using Apple Pay is easy, maybe a little too easy. Do you regret a purchase? No problem. Returning with Apple Pay is very simple.

Returns with Apple Pay: this is how you will be refunded

Returning items purchased with Apple Pay is just as easy as paying with cash or debit card. Little will change for the store employee either. To return a purchase that you paid with Apple Pay:

  1. Go to the store and tell the store employee what you want to return. Also hand over the receipt;
  2. The employee processes the return in the store’s cash register system. This is done in exactly the same way as with a payment with cash or pin;
  3. Select the card in the Wallet app on which you want to be refunded;
  4. The store employee gives a signal as soon as you have to hold the iPhone or Apple Watch at the payment terminal (just like you did when purchasing);
  5. Then verify the return with Face ID, Touch ID or the access code and the amount is on its way to your bank account. If you are using an Apple Watch, you have to press the side button twice.
Apple Pay safe

Apple has no influence on the actual payment of this amount. Depending on the processing time of your bank, the transfer takes 1 to a few working days. Perhaps the store employee will ask for the last 4 digits of your card number while processing the return to make sure it is the correct purchase.

On an iPhone, you can find these numbers in the Settings app. Tap ‘Wallet & Apple Pay’ and choose the card you paid with. If you’re using an Apple Watch, go to the Watch app on your iPhone and tap the My Watch tab. Then choose ‘Wallet and Apple Pay’ and select your payment card.

Return online purchases with Apple Pay

Have you made an online purchase with Apple Pay? Then returning is just as easy. Send the package with any completed return form back to the sender. Wait until the package has arrived and when you meet the conditions for return, the amount will be transferred to the account linked to Apple Pay. This can again take a few working days.
