In the Wild: Skoda Felicia (1998)

In this section it is often full of the special and exclusive stuff that is spotted on the street, but also the more modest rare cars deserve a stage in our opinion. What about this Skoda Felicia.

Probably not everyone will think about the fact that this dark blue Skoda Felicia is now worth a photo. Techzle reader Roelof Buring understood that too. As he also noted, this modest Czech is now threatened with extinction in the Netherlands. In addition, this is also a remaining relic from the time that Skoda was really on its own two feet. Although the Felicia was sold in the period that Skoda was gradually incorporated into the Volkswagen Group, the Felicia is in principle just a further development of the Favorit, from the Eastern Block period.

This copy dates from 1998 and concerns a very late pre-facelift. The 54 hp 1.3 MPI is located under the hood. That is a slightly modernized variant of a power source that was developed by Skoda itself. Volkswagen’s influence on the range of engines was limited to the more powerful 1.6 petrol and 1.9 diesel. In terms of base and drive, we therefore still have to deal with an ‘original Skoda’.

On the face of it, the Felicia still looks great and the car was last named in early this year. The MOT is still valid for a long time. So it looks like the brand new owner will be driving around for a while. Hopefully this silent witness from other times can keep the country’s roads a bit more interesting for the time being.
