HomeKit invite people: that’s how you do it

In a household there is always one person who is the main administrator of the HomeKit system at home. This person can invite others with the tips from this article. For example, if you want to give your partner or mother access to the operation of your lighting, you must first invite her. To do that, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap it Homescreen on the top left house.
  3. Now choose the option Inviteā€¦ and enter the other person’s Apple ID to send him or her an invitation.
  4. The person then receives a push message from the Woning app from which the invitation can be accepted.

Did you not receive the push message with the invitation? Then you can pick it up manually:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap it Homescreen on the top left house.
  3. The invitation is on the home settings screen. Choose Accept, followed by Ready.

Allow external access and editing for HomeKit

For everyone you have invited to operate HomeKit devices in your home, you can set whether they can also reach the devices remotely. You can also set whether he or she can do editing, such as adjusting scenes. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap it Homescreen on the top left house.
  3. This screen shows the people who have access to your HomeKit configuration. Tap the person for whom you want to set it up.
  4. Adjust the switches Control accessories remotely and Add and change accessories on or off.

Share HomeKit house with external access.

What are the benefits of sharing a HomeKit home?

Sharing your HomeKit home has two advantages. If you have given someone else access, this is possible:

  • Operation of all devices. Someone with access can then turn on lights from his or her device, adjust the thermostat and activate scenes. If you have a camera, then that person can also view the camera images.
  • Participate in automation. If you have set an automation (for example, “Turn off when I leave home”), you can also include the other people in the automation. This will prevent your housemates from leaving behind in the dark when you leave home.

So keep in mind the consequences if you add someone to your HomeKit home. Not only can they switch lights on or off, but if you also have a door lock or camera, they can easily enter your home or view the camera images.

Remove people from HomeKit

If you want to deny someone access to your HomeKit home, you can do so as an administrator in the following way:

  1. Open the Home app.
  2. Tap it Homescreen on the top left house.
  3. Choose the person you want to delete.
  4. Then tap Remove person.

In addition to the manager, the participant can also remove himself from the HomeKit house in this way.
