iPhone 15 Pro: New renders reveal design surprises

New renders of the iPhone 15 Pro have surfaced, based on original technical drawings. These reveal a number of design surprises.

iPhone 15 Pro design renders

Actually, we thought we already had a pretty good idea of the iPhone 15 Pro. Earlier this year, technical drawings were already leaked and renders were made based on them. This included a giant camera island and a single haptic button for volume. But as you may know, Apple is constantly changing its plans. A technical drawing that is two or three months old has long since become obsolete.

Fortunately (for us) the new drawings are leaking again and there are diligent designers who make renders of them. This is also the case with the new CAD designs (technical drawings) and renders of the iPhone 15 Pro. Compared to the previous renders, these show a number of surprising design changes. Will you take a look?

Two volume buttons and action button

The main change? There are now two volume buttons again, just like on all previous iPhones. And that is in line with previous rumours. The volume buttons would originally no longer be real buttons, but so-called solid-state (fixed) buttons that work on the basis of touch. Earlier we heard that Apple has postponed this new button type for another year, and the renders confirm that.

More surprising is what can be seen above the volume buttons. There we get our first glimpse of the new action button. Action button? Yes, indeed, we already know that from the Apple Watch Ultra. But it will also be introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro, replacing the silent mode switch there. That is a big step for Apple, because until now every iPhone had such a switch. The company apparently has a lot of confidence that this action button works better than what we have now. Earlier we already philosophized about the possible working method of the button.

Camera island still smaller

In the previous renders, the camera island caused a small shock. Not only had the bulge for the cameras on the back become a bit bigger again, it also protruded even more. Not to mention the lenses themselves, which made the iPhone almost half an inch thicker at that point.

In the new renders, the camera island and the lenses have again clearly shrunk. Still slightly larger than the predecessor iPhone 14 Pro, but not as disproportionate as in the first renders. Good thing, too.
