Is an address or street wrong in Google Maps, this is how you adjust it

Google Maps is the most popular map and navigation app, but that doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Maps may contain errors. From addresses that are incorrect to new roads that cannot yet be found in the navigation. We show how you can have Google adjust the map.

Errors in Google Maps

The main asset of Google Maps is that maps are always kept up-to-date, and of course that it is completely free. Google engages its users to report any errors. These are then examined and the map can be edited.

Just before the summer I moved to a new-build home in a completely new neighbourhood. Where Maps would say my address is is actually the local supermarket, which is 200 yards away from my house. In fact, the local supermarket is indicated on the map where I actually live. In other words, the location of the addresses had to be swapped, but just to clarify: I haven’t found any shopping carts at home so far.

This is how you correct an address

It is very remarkable that neither the owner of the supermarket nor the customers have requested correction in Maps, even though the location of the store is incorrectly marked. I’ll show you how to correct an address:

  1. Open Maps and use the search function to find the address you want to change.
  2. Swipe up and choose An edit of [adres] introduce
  3. Tap on Correct an address
  4. Drag the pin until the address is in the right place and press Next one
  5. Type in the correct address and press Send icon

You can also propose an edit of a road that is missing, one that is incorrect or has suddenly turned into one-way traffic. Tap can Add or correct a road when you suggest an edit.

Waiting for a response

Keep in mind that it can take a while for Google to examine your edit, and I’m talking about a period of days to weeks. As soon as something has been adjusted in Maps, you will be notified by email.

Have you ever edited something in Maps? Did you get a quick response from Google then? And how did it feel to make corrections on the map yourself? did you briefly consider yourself ‘God the Creator’? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
