More than a third of the Dutch wrongly believe that fall and impact damage with your smartphone is covered by home contents insurance as standard. This applies to some insurers, but in many cases you need additional coverage.
Phone damage and home contents insurance
Samsung launched the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 in August, and it comes with a hefty price tag of 1,799 euros. It would be a shame if you damaged the device – that goes for any phone – but an accident can happen quickly. 34 percent of the Dutch wrongly believe that damage to your phone is always covered by their home contents insurance policy. This is apparent from a survey by the independent fieldwork agency Panel among 1,000 Dutch people.
It is true that many insurers for mobile phones make a distinction between the types of claims that are covered with the basic cover. Fall and impact damage is therefore not always covered by home contents insurance, and additional coverage is often required. According to the respondents, insurers make it unnecessarily complex and 76 percent believe that insurers should indicate more clearly under which insurance and which cover a mobile phone falls.
