‘Jeep comes with a compact SUV on a PSA basis’

It is equally well known that the brands of the former Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will build cars on the CMP base of PSA. Now it turns out that Jeep is also one of the lucky ones.

Fiat Chrysler and Groupe PSA have since merged into Stellantis. Last summer we already heard that Alfa Romeo and Fiat will benefit from this amalgamation, among other things, by building compact models on PSA’s CMP platform. Now it appears that Jeep is also going along with that plan. In fact, Jeep will come even earlier than Alfa Romeo and Fiat with a compact SUV on that basis, if we have the sources of it Automotive News may believe. Construction will start in 2022 at the Polish factory in Tychy. Alfa Romeo and Fiat will follow in 2023.

The factory is currently already in the hands of the former FCA, because Fiat now builds the 500 and Lancia de Ypsilon there. So there will be at least three models. In the case of Alfa Romeo, this is the car that is currently known as ‘Brennero’. A compact B-segment SUV under the yet to be revealed Tonale. For Fiat, it is probably an SUV / crossover that bears the name Punto. This may be the ‘new Punto’, although it cannot be ruled out that there will be both a regular ‘low’ Punto and a high-legged sister model. What can be expected from the Jeep is even more shady. Logically, the Jeep will only become an SUV.

In any case, they all share their basis with the compact models of the former PSA. We know the CMP base from the Peugeot 208 and 2008, but also the Opel Corsa and Mokka. All cars of which electrically powered variants also exist. The Jeep, Alfa Romeo and Fiat will therefore certainly be available as fully electric models.
