KTM recalls 1290 Super Duke R again over wiring harness problem

KTM has again issued a recall for the 1290 Super Duke R. The central wiring harness routing needs to be adjusted, according to KTM as a result of continuous product development.

At the beginning of last year KTM had also discovered a problem with the wiring harness routing of the 2020 1290 Super Duke R, but then it concerned the part of the harness that was processed in the back of the bike and the Austrians were very clear about what concerns cause and effect.

With this recall, KTM is silent on that cause and effect, but sticks to a statement that “as a result of continuous product development, the routing of the central wiring harness has been improved.”

KTM also reports that zones where the wiring harness can chafe should be avoided and that therefore cable ties and a frame cover should be refitted.

That suggests that somewhere in that area the central wiring harness has been able to chafe. A chafed wiring harness can, in turn, cause a short circuit, which can cause the motor to fall and, in a worst-case scenario, even start a fire.

The recall concerns the 2020-2022 1290 Super Duke R, the wiring harness routing will be adjusted at the KTM dealer.
