The Chinese Maxus has presented a new electric MPV that the brand will also market in Europe. The electric ballroom is called Mifa 9 and on paper it travels 520 kilometers on a full battery.

Maxus is a brand of the Chinese SAIC Motor that we only know in the Netherlands for its electric commercial vehicles. Maxus sells the electric EV80 in the Netherlands and also has two considerably more modern electrically powered commercial vehicles on the menu in the form of the eDeliver 3 and eDeliver 9. In its home country of China, Maxus supplies various SUVs, pick-ups and MPVs. The brand now completes its portfolio with a new model in the latter category. We are digitally introduced to the Maxus Mifa 9, an electric MPV that will also be sold in Europe.

The Mifa 9 is a 5.27 meter long MPV with a wheelbase of no less than 3.2 meters. A wattle of a car, because it is ten centimeters longer than the longest variant of the new Volkswagen Multivan. The bottom of the Mifa 9, which is available as a six- and seven-seater, contains a 90 kWh battery. According to the Chinese CLTC method, which applies to light commercial vehicles, this is good for a range of 520 kilometers. A 245 hp and 350 Nm strong electric motor drives the front wheels. The MPV has an 11 kW on-board charger as standard. In the long run, Maxus will come up with a version with – on paper – a range of 650 kilometers. In any case, Maxus gives the six-seater version of the Mifa 9 a fairly opulent-looking interior. There are three displays in the dashboard that are housed together in a black panel.

The Maxus will be launched in China in the middle of next year and should also entice consumers to purchase in Norway and the United Kingdom. The electric MPV in China has a starting price of about €37,500. The three versions in which Maxus delivers the Mifa 9 are – loosely translated – successively called ‘Clouds on the grassland’, ‘Expanded forest’ and ‘Beautiful mountain’. The latter variant is the six-seater with the interior that you see in these photos. A starting price of €52,900 applies for this.

Then the question is whether Maxus will also sell the Mifa 9 in the Netherlands. Maxomotive Nederland, the Dutch importer of Maxus, tells AutoWeek that it is currently only targeting the electric commercial vehicle from Maxus, although it does not rule out the possibility of adding other segments to its area of interest in the future.

Would the Mifa 9 have a chance of success on the Dutch market? Why or why not? Let us know in the comments!
