‘Mercedes sells many of its own dealers in Europe’

Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, is said to be planning to sell a large number of European dealers to free up money.

Of course, in most cases they remain just Mercedes dealers, but in the hands of a dealer group instead of the brand itself. The German Handelsblatt, quoted by Automotive News Europe, states that a total of 25 dealerships in the United Kingdom, Spain and Belgium are involved. In total, the deal then relates to about 2,800 employees, who would then formally no longer work directly for Mercedes.

Up to €1 billion could be generated by the plans. In addition to an increase in financial reserves, the deal also results in a reduction in fixed costs for Daimler. In a response, a spokesperson for Daimler agrees that the divestment of dealerships is being looked into. However, it is emphasized that these jobs are not at risk.
