MG5 EV is electric station wagon

The European return of the ‘British’ MG has certainly not done the current Chinese parent company any harm. In the UK, a completely new electric model has now been added to the range: the MG5 EV.

With the MG ZS EV, the European rebirth of the iconic MG is going without a hitch. Since its introduction, 2,500 copies of the competitively priced electric SUV have already been driving in the Netherlands. MG previously promised that the portfolio would be further supplemented with electric cars in 2020 and 2021. One of these appears to have been unveiled now: the MG5 EV. Not an SUV, completely against the current, but a station wagon! The 4.54 centimeter long MG5 is about 20 centimeters longer than the MG ZS EV and with a luggage capacity of 464 liters, it swallows 16 liters more than that crossover. Compared to popular estate cars, the MG5 EV is slightly shorter than a Kia Ceed Sportswagon.

The design of the new MG station wagon is not entirely new. Three years ago, sister company Roewe presented the Ei5. That Roewe is already driving around in China as an electric station, but will then get a 115 hp electric motor with a 52.5 kWh battery pack. That battery pack remains the same in this new MG5 EV, but it gets the more powerful engine from the ZS EV with 143 hp. After WLTP measurements, the station wagon appears to come 213 miles (343 km) far. It takes 50 minutes on the CCS charger for the EV to be filled to 80 percent again.

The newest member of the MG family is still at the British dealers before the turn of the year. In Great Britain, MG has grown over time to become the most popular EV brand. Whether we will also get the MG5 EV is not entirely certain, but the chance is certainly there. First, the Dutch dealers are preparing for the just announced plug-in hybrid HS.
