No more speed difference between MacBook Pros
Soon it will no longer matter in terms of speed whether you buy a large or small MacBook Pro. According to a recent tweet from well-known tasty Dylandkt both new models get the same M1X chip. This logically leads to almost the same performance, provided there are no clock frequency differences or other differences between the two chips.
According to Mark Gurman by Bloomberg the M1X chip in the new Pro laptops will receive a 12-core CPU and a 16-core or 32-core GPU. This is expected to provide a major performance improvement over the M1 chip, which runs on 4 CPU cores and 8 GPU cores.
That is good news, since many users consider the handiness of their laptop to be very high. Previously, you significantly sacrificed speed by choosing a smaller MacBook Pro. A pity again: the price of the smaller MacBook Pro is expected to increase considerably, just like the speed.
More about the new MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro has looked more or less the same for years: since 2016, little has been done to the appearance of the Apple laptop. That will finally change with the new models. The design of the MacBook Pro follows other Apple products such as the iMac (2021), iPad Air (2020) and iPhone 12.
If you open the laptop, you will encounter the other changes: the Touch Bar will disappear. Although one of the main features of Apple’s Pro laptops, the touch-sensitive bar is very controversial. Apparently Apple has had enough of it now. In the new MacBook Pro we will probably see the classic function keys again.
In addition to the function keys, Apple is bringing back a few other things: ports. We expect multiple USB-C connections, an HDMI port and a slot for SD cards. The latter is probably especially happy for photographers.
