New Jeep Compass in detail

The unveiling of the renewed Jeep Compass takes place in a special way. Jeep announced its thoroughly updated SUV in January this year, but kept extensive information about the car under wraps. The facelifted Compass is now revealing all its secrets.

At the end of 2020, Jeep already presented a facelifted version of its Compass launched in 2017 in China. At the beginning of this year, Jeep introduced a series of 80th Anniversary editions, not only of the Wrangler and Renegade, but also of the European facelifted version of the Compass. Today Jeep lifts the updated regular versions on the podium. Jeep calls its renewed Compass the ‘New Compass’ and speaks of a completely new model, but that is not entirely the case, after all, we are dealing with a facelift. The fact that Jeep is so important about the sharpened Compass is, however, understandable. The model accounts for no less than 40 percent of the brand’s sales in Europe. A quarter of the Compassen that the brand sells is plug-in hybrid. It is therefore logical that the 4xe plug version will return after the facelift.

The renewed Compass can be recognized from the outside, among other things, by its new full-LED headlights. The new light units are a lot flatter than those of the original, which is now more than four years old. The LED daytime running lights move from the bottom of the light unit to the top of it. Jeep also takes care of the front bumper. The fog lights move up slightly and are visually tied together by a black plastic strip. The adjustments at the back are less drastic. The LED lighting of the rear lights has been changed in a very subtle way. The red LED strip of the rear lights runs more horizontally and no longer follows the spur down. Despite the fact that the renewed Jeep Compass in this new form is also on the market in China and India, and has already been presented there, the design of the renewed SUV is ‘more European’ according to Jeep. The electrically operated tailgate can now also be opened by waving your foot under the rear bumper.

As brief as the changes to the outside are, the interior will be overhauled. In fact, the complete dashboard is new. The new Jeep Compass has a 10.25-inch digital instrumentation and a completely new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with the new 8.4- or 10.1-inch measuring display now placed slightly loose on the dashboard instead of being integrated. in the center console. The system can of course handle things like Android Auto and Apple Carplay. Below the screen is a series of physical shortcuts, underneath the new ventilation grilles. The ventilation grilles on the corners of the dashboard are also being replaced, they are now connected to each other by a strip that runs the entire width of the cockpit. More news? Certainly. The climate control island is completely new and the center tunnel is, like the steering wheel, completely Jeep New Style. The new interior has 4.4 liters more storage space than that of the model that you can still find at the dealers. Also interesting: the renewed Compass is the first European Jeep that can operate on the highway (Highway Assist) semi-autonomously (level 2) thanks to things such as traffic sign recognition, intelligent adaptive cruise control, Lane Centering, an emergency braking system and pedestrian and cyclist recognition.

engines

Jeep supplies the renewed Compass as Sport, Longitude, Limited, S and as more rugged Trailhawk. There are 130 horsepower and 150 horsepower 1.3-blown petrol engines that are available with a manual six-speed gearbox as well as with a DCT automatic transmission. The petrol versions are always front-wheel drive, including the Trailhawk version. In addition, Jeep offers two plug-in hybrid 4xe powertrains with outputs of 190 and 240 hp. These plug versions have an automatic six-speed gearbox. As before, the 4xe plug-ins have an 11.4 kWh battery pack that takes the two of them 47 to 49 kilometers. The 190 hp variant kicks it up to an electric driving range of 52 kilometers. In the 190 hp Compass 4xe, the blown 1.3 petrol engine delivers 130 hp, in the 270 hp 4xe flavor that power source kicks it up to 180 hp. The electric motor is 60 hp and 250 Nm strong in both versions. The renewed 130 hp 1.6 Multijet II diesel engine is not coming to the Netherlands.
