An electric version of the new Mercedes-Benz Citan is also coming for the first time. Mercedes-Benz reports that. The new commercial vehicle will be launched in the second half of 2021.
Mercedes-Benz announced the arrival of a new Citan last year, but at the time did not release when the new commercial vehicle will be on the market. Well now. The new Citan will be at the dealers in the second half of next year. More interesting is the announcement that there will also be a fully electric version. Technical specifications are not yet available.
The arrival of that electric Citan is actually no surprise. In fact, it’s actually strange that it hasn’t been there before. The current Mercedes-Benz Citan that was presented in 2012 and has been in production since then virtually unchanged, is little more than a Renault Kangoo on which Mercedes-Benz has poured its own sauce. The Kangoo with which the Citan currently shares its basis dates back to 2007. Renault has been supplying a fully electric Kangoo ZE of this car since 2011. The 60 hp Kangoo ZE in its current form has a 33 kWh battery pack, good for an electric range of about 200 kilometers. Recently, Renault pulled the curtain off a completely new Kangoo and an electric version will come later. The new Citan shares its technology with the youngest Kangoo and this time the Kangoo ZE also gets a star on its nose.
