With the new 308 and 408, Peugeot is currently attracting a lot of attention, but the 3008, which is now six years old, is not forgotten either. There is a new Peugeot 3008 on the way and AutoWeek can already show you that new SUV in test suit. What seems? He’s going after the 408!

With the 408, Peugeot introduced a completely new model for the brand this year. The Peugeot 408 is a high-legged liftback that fills the gap between the 308 and the 3008. The crossover with a steeply sloping roofline, like the Peugeot 308, is a further development of the EMP2 base that you know from the previous 308 and the current 3008 and 5008. The Peugeot 3008 will be transferred to the improved EMP2 platform at its upcoming generation change. The test work with the car is already in full swing.

The current 3008 was facelifted in 2020.

Although the new Peugeot 3008 is still fully covered in these photos, there are already some interesting design elements to be seen. Just like the 308 and 408, the new Peugeot 3008 has vicious headlights peering into the world. In addition, something of the rear lights can already be seen. Most striking is the complete rear of this test model. There is apparently a misleading piece of fake sheet metal on the back that should create the illusion that a relatively traditionally lined SUV is hiding under the sticker work. That certainly does not seem to be the case. The new Peugeot 3008, like the 408, seems to have a steeply sloping roofline. That means that the 3008 creeps quite a bit towards the 408, but remains its more SUV-like sister model. Another possibility is that we do not see the new 3008 here, but a model that may be called 4008. A ‘sportier lined’ alternative for the next generation 3008.

Peugeot 408

So a touch of 408 for the new Peugeot 3008. Or is it 4008?

The current generation Peugeot 3008 appeared in 2016 and went under the knife relatively radically in 2020. Just like big brother 5008, the 3008 got a completely new front. At the beginning of next year, both the 3008 and 5008 will receive a new hybrid powertrain that will supplement the delivery range, which includes plug-ins. In addition to petrol and diesel engines, we can look forward to hybrid power sources, with and without a plug. It is not inconceivable that there will be a fully electric 3008. After all, there is already an electric e-308 and of the 408 an electric e-408 will follow in due course. When can we expect the new Peugeot 3008 and e-3008? We aim for a market introduction in the first half of 2024.

Peugeot 3008 in the Netherlands

Since the introduction of the first generation Peugeot 3008, 35,797 units have been sold in our country over two generations. The current model performs better than its predecessor. In 2017, Peugeot delivered no fewer than 5,250 units in the Netherlands. In 2018 and 2019, 4,596 and 4,811 units successively left the showroom. In 2020 and 2021, the French sold 2,397 and 2,234 copies in our country respectively. The counter remains at 1,635 this year.
