The canvas has only just come off the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport, when the absolute topper makes its appearance. Volkswagen says that the Golf R will be unveiled in a few weeks.
The 300 horsepower new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport already promises to be a nice chopper, but that is obviously not yet the top of the Golf food chain. Just like before, the Golf R and it has become clear that we do not have to wait long for it. On November 4, Volkswagen pulls the curtain off the car. The brand says this in a short teaser video on its Instagram account. Volkswagen would not be Volkswagen if a visual teaser was not immediately shown and that is also the case now. Unfortunately, we don’t see much more than the well-known viewers of the Golf 8 and the LED strip in between.
Although Volkswagen itself likes to wait until November 4 to show the rest, the new Golf R is already an open secret. The car has already been photographed in its entirety, so it’s clear what to expect. The upper Golf distinguishes itself, among other things, by its own front bumper with large air intakes. Thicker side skirts are available, as is an unmissable rear spoiler. The sturdy rear bumper houses a decent diffuser and four chutes, two exhausts per corner. The R is displayed under the brand logo on the tailgate, to clearly indicate that you are dealing with the strongest Golf.
What happens under the hood is still a bit of coffee. Logically, the well-known 2.0 TSI is again in the nose, which in the case of Audi brother S3 is good for 310 hp. The difference with the 300 hp GTI Clubsport S would be quite small with that power, so we would not be surprised if the power source has been raised a bit further. In the Arteon R, Volkswagen proves that 320 hp can also be obtained from a 2.0 liter. Who knows, that variant may also find its way to the Golf R. In any case, count on a 0-100 sprint that is just about over in 5 seconds or less. Switching is almost certainly with the DSG7 automatic transmission. There is also a Golf R Variant in the pipeline. We will know more in less than three weeks!
