Piaggio Group takes 5.5 hectares of business complex into use in Jakarta

With the opening of a new production facility, Piaggio wants to strengthen its presence in the Asia Pacific region. The 5.5-hectare business complex located near Jakarta will manufacture Vespa scooters for the local market.

With annual sales of more than 5 million scooters and motorcycles, Indonesia is the world’s third largest market after India and China, with sales forecast to grow to 6 million in the next three years.

Roberto Colaninno, CEO Piaggio Group:

“With the new factory in Indonesia, the Piaggio Group takes another step forward in the strategic international growth program it began more than a decade ago and has established it as one of the leading players in the industry, with a portfolio of unique brands, a proud symbol of Italy all over the world. The Piaggio Group’s sales in the Indonesian market grew by 61% in 2021 and will continue to increase for the foreseeable future.”

The factory was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, November 21 in the presence of Indonesian authorities, including Industry Minister Agus Kartasasmita and Italian Ambassador to Indonesia Bendetto Latteri.

With the new facility in Jakarta, the Piaggio Group now has a total of 8 production plants worldwide: three in Italy (Pontedera, Noale and Mandello del Lario for Piaggio/Vespa, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi respectively), one in Boston (robotics and future mobility), one in India and two others in the Asia Pacific region (Vietnam and China).
