Porsche CEO Oliver Blume becomes CEO of Volkswagen

An important change of the guard arrives at Volkswagen. Oliver Blume, currently CEO of Porsche, will become the new CEO of Volkswagen. He takes over some of Herbert Diess’s duties.

An official announcement is still pending, but both Reuters and the knowledgeable Auto, Motor und Sport speak about the change of management. Blume (52) is reportedly taken from Porsche to Volkswagen, to address, among other things, the problematic conception of the ID.3. The problems with the new Golf are also immediately on his plate. It may be too much for Herbert Diess, who is also CEO of the entire group in addition to CEO of Volkswagen, all too much to handle. That is why Blume takes over Diess’ tasks for the Volkswagen brand.

Blume, who has been with the Volkswagen Group since the 1990s, is reportedly being succeeded in turn by Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier (60). He will then take charge of Porsche. Both Blume and Maier (photo 2) started at their current post in 2015 and will now move on after five years. It is not yet known who will succeed Maier at Skoda. Blume and Maier saw their brands grow under their leadership and both have an impressive track record. Their switch marks a return to a brand that is known to them: Blume previously worked for Volkswagen, among others, Maier came from Porsche to Skoda in 2015.
