Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo ready for unveiling

Porsche is about to expand the Taycan range. Not with a new engine version of its electric gran turismo, but with a new body style. The Taycan Cross Turismo will be the larger brother of the already well-known Taycan. The new electric Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo will make its public debut on 4 March.

Porsche turns out to be quite adept at filling niches. The brand’s range includes Coupé versions of the Cayenne and with the Panamera Sport Turismo, Porsche has a stationary version of the Panamera in its line-up. The Sport Turismo concept will soon also be poured over the electric Porsche Taycan. In fact, it is the production version of the Mission E Cross Turismo, a study model that made its public debut in 2018. Test editor Cornelis Kit has already been able to make the first meters with a packed Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, a new variant of the electric Porsche Taycan that the brand from Zuffenhausen now says will make its public debut on 4 March.

The Taycan Cross Turismo is in fact a Taycan with a carriage as if it were a shooting brake. The Taycan Cross Turismo has a roofline that extends further back before diving down, something that should of course benefit the headroom in the rear. Under the tailgate is a luggage compartment that in any case has more capacity than the 366-liter luggage compartment in the back of the regular Taycan. Porsche is currently only talking about the arrival of a Taycan Cross Turismo, a car that is a few centimeters higher on its legs than the already famous electric Taycan. It is obvious that there will also be a ‘low’ variant, a car that may be just like the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo will be called. However, Porsche does not want to confirm this yet.

Is the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo identical to the regular Taycan except for its carriage? Almost, but not quite. For example, the Taycan Cross Turismo will only be available with four-wheel drive and Porsche will soon only supply it with the Performance Plus battery. The Taycan Cross will therefore be available as a Taycan Cross Turismo 4S with a 93.4 kWh battery pack and a 571 hp and 650 Nm strong powertrain. Above this are the 680 hp and 850 Nm strong Turbo and the 761 hp and 1,050 Nm powerful Turbo S. The first copies will be at the dealers in May.
