Renault 4 and 5 return as EVs

The 500 is the cork on which Fiat floats and according to the latest rumors, Renault will soon be pulling an old model name from the mothballs. According to Automotive News, the brand will eventually release a fully electric new Renault 4 and the 5 will not be forgotten.

Renault will highlight its brand strategy on January 14 and Automotive News can already release a very interesting news fact based on insiders. Renault reportedly continues historical success numbers in the future. One of those classic stunners returning would be the Renault 4. For example, in addition to the intention to save € 2 billion in the coming years, resulting in a major reorganization, there is also positive Renault news in the barrel.

Renault CEO Luca de Meo would be interested in dusting off the old success number ‘4’. The reborn Renault 4 would – how could it be otherwise – reincarnated as an electric model. The 4, of which more than 8 million units were built between 1951 and 1992 (!), Is not the only icon to return in EV form. The Renault 5 / Supercinq could also get a spiritual successor with an electric powertrain.

Whether Luca de Meio provides clarity on January 14 is uncertain. Undoubtedly, the Renault CEO was somewhat inspired by Fiat for the plans, if they were correct. The Italians brought back the 500 in 2007 and that small city squatter has now become the mainstay of the brand in Europe.
