Renault is having a great time at the upcoming edition of the Retromobile classic fair in Paris. The brand is bringing a whole series of cars with an unmistakable retro jacket, although the question is whether classic enthusiasts will be happy with what is hidden under those jackets.

At Renault, of course, they have to think about the future and their own image, so the vast majority of the cars on the stand are electric. The French have shown their melancholic side more often lately and will show some cars in Paris that we already know. The Renault 4 ‘Suite N°4’, for example, is there, as is the quite spectacular Renault R5 Turbo 3E.

There are also new oldies to admire. For example, Renault is exhibiting another electric ‘four’ and we get to see a new interpretation of the first Twingo. Even more special is the car that Renault calls ‘Mute the Hot Rod’. It is based on the narrow, ancient carriage of a 1924 Renault MT, but in American hotrod style. Count on a heavily lowered model that has exchanged its fenders for a set of very wide rear wheels and tires. The ‘Mute the’ obviously refers to the electric powertrain, which can also be found in this car. The final version of this show car is not yet in Paris, but we are already seeing a preview.

Elsewhere on the stand, Renault is presenting more Twingos, because this year we are celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of that mischievous model. The fact that the French brand also pays so much attention to the R4 and R5 is because retro production models of those cars are actually on the way.

At the moment it is only an announcement of the models shown in Paris, we will undoubtedly learn more about Retromobile itself. Retromobile 2023 is from 1 to 5 February.
