Renewed SsangYong Rexton in the picture

SsangYong has released the first images of the facelifted Rexton. The largest SUV of the South Korean manufacturer is not exactly treated gently on the cutting table.

SsangYong has sold a total of 1,505 Rextons in the Netherlands, but only one copy is of the current generation presented in 2017 (photos 6 and 7). The model heavily taxed by the tax authorities is simply too pricey in our country to attract customers to the showroom. The car is therefore not very relevant in the Netherlands, but that does not mean that the facelifted Rexton that SsangYong has behind the scenes does not require any attention. The brand has released the first images of the renewed Rexton, a car that is in any case quite radically renewed optically.

SsangYong bravely puts the designation ‘All New Rexton’ on its renewed top model, but the sharpened Rexton is by no means completely new. The SUV does get a completely new front. The relatively small grille of the current model is replaced by a truly immense grille that covers about half the entire height of the nose. The new grille is flanked on both sides by completely new headlights, more angularly drawn specimens without any fringes at the corners. The front bumper has also been renewed and is filled with, among other things, new LED fog lamps.

The Rexton is also being adjusted at the rear. SsangYong gives the SUV completely new light units here with a new LED signature that optically flows into the chrome strip placed between the lamps. The reversing lights have been removed from the units and are housed in the redesigned rear bumper. In that bumper we perceive new design elements that should continue as exhaust end pieces, but are apparently completely closed. The adjustments in the interior seem to be limited to the arrival of a renewed infotainment system, digital instruments and a new steering wheel.

SsangYong is expanding the Rexton’s option list with Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, comprehensive adaptive cruise control introduced by SsangYong in the new Korando. With the system, the Rexton is able to behave somewhat autonomously on the highway.

On November 4, the renewed Rexton will be presented in its entirety in its home country South Korea. The European version will follow later.
