Rijkswaterstaat is urging that people no longer use the road in the provinces where code red applies from 2 p.m. Storm Eunice is so powerful there, it can get very dangerous on the road.
Code red, the highest weather alert, has been announced by the KNMI for Zeeland, South Holland, North Holland, Friesland, Flevoland, the Wadden area and the IJsselmeer area. According to Rijkswaterstaat, anyone who does take to the road must take into account very strong gusts of wind and unexpected situations as a result of, for example, falling trees and flying objects. Bus, tram and train transport will also largely come to a standstill.
In the provinces where code orange is in force, according to Rijkswaterstaat, it is wise to postpone the trip if possible. This advice expressly applies to motorists with a trailer, freight traffic and holiday traffic. Rijkswaterstaat employees are keeping a close eye on the situation today with extra people in the traffic control centers and extra road inspectors on the road. At wind-sensitive locations, such as the Van Brienenoord bridge, the Haringvliet bridge and the Moerdijk bridge, Rijkswaterstaat has extra personnel and equipment ready to quickly recover any stranded vehicles.
