Route Mobiel is calling it quits

Route Mobiel, which presented itself at the beginning of this century as an alternative to the ANWB Road Service, is calling it quits. It announces this on its website.

Route Mobiel is calling it quits. The breakdown assistance service, part of the insurer Reaal, will disappear now that the non-life insurance policies of Reaal are taken over by Nationale Nederlanden. This also included the Route Mobiel service. However, Nationale Nederlanden does not offer its own breakdown assistance service and therefore no longer sees a place for Route Mobiel. Customers can continue to use the services of Route Mobiel until the end of their insurance year.

In 2004 Route Mobiel was launched as an alternative roadside assistance service. They wanted to offer comparable services as the ANWB Wegenwacht, but at more favorable rates. The idea behind Route Mobiel was that it only focused on roadside assistance and therefore had to pass on less costs than the much larger ANWB. The newcomer went in with a straight leg and did not hesitate to drop out the roadside assistance in its advertising campaign.

Later on, it often fiddled with the ANWB and Route Mobiel. For example, Route Mobiel was accused of being little more than a towing service and it even came to a lawsuit between the two. This was mainly about Route Mobiel’s color scheme, which is very similar to the Roadside Assistance.
