Statement: ‘I will buy an electric car with a subsidy in 2023’

To take advantage or not?

From 10 January you can again apply for a subsidy for a new or used electric car. Do you plan to use the subsidy scheme in 2023? It is high time to gauge the opinions with the following statement: ‘I will buy an electric car with a subsidy in 2023.’

As in previous years, you can again apply for a purchase subsidy in 2023 for a new or used electric car with a catalog value of up to €45,000. The subsidy scheme is being phased out slowly but surely. In 2023 you will receive a financial contribution of €2,950 on a new electric car. That was still €3,350 this year. The scheme will still exist in 2024, but after that it will be over and the subsidy tap will be turned off definitively.

If you are in the market for a new or used electric car that meets the conditions, it can be quite lucrative to use the scheme in 2023. The electric Dacia Spring, for example, has a starting price of €20,850. Suppose you use the subsidy scheme, then with an unchanged starting price next year you will just save about 15 percent in the purchase of your new small EV. If you go for a car like an Opel Corsa-e, which now costs about €34,000, the SEPP subsidy will give you a ‘discount’ of about 9 percent. Those are great savings!

You can also receive a SEPP subsidy for a second-hand electric car, provided, of course, that the car has not previously been registered in the name of a subsidy applicant. The original catalog value of the used electric car may also not exceed €45,000. The €2,000 purchase subsidy that you can get on a used EV also provides you with a nice saving. But! Perhaps you are not at all sensitive to the EV violence in the car world and you do not need an electric car at all.

You already feel it, we are curious about your plans. Time for a round of voting, in which we posit the following proposition:

‘I will buy an electric car with a subsidy in 2023’

Does that statement apply to you? Why or why not? Have you recently purchased an EV with a SEPP subsidy, or are you perhaps on the hunt for a more expensive electric car for which you cannot receive a subsidy? Or maybe you are not (yet) in the market for a new or used electric car? To be clear: the statement does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the AutoWeek editors.

You can add explanations and arguments in the comments. As always, your opinion does not have to be someone else’s. We should all be on AutoWeek.nl because we have a thing for cars, so be kind to each other and try not to get too carried away.
