Echosync is freeware to sync folders. The free software contains no advertising and there are not even any advertisements on the site. It is a portable application. That means you don’t have to install the software on your PC. You can just download the zip archive, extract the files to the hard drive or usb stick and from there EchoSync.exe to carry out.

Sync Profiles

The first thing to do is create a new sync profile. For example, you can create a profile for the folder with back up photos and another profile to protect documents. Each time you specify the source folder and the destination folder. Then give the profile a recognizable name and a short description.

Such a synchronization profile is saved as an XML file and it is possible to exclude certain subfolders from the synchronization. When you right-click on such a profile, you can edit both the source folder and the destination folder and view the log.

You can create as many sync profiles as you need.

Compare and sync

Then you have two important buttons: Compare and sync† With the first, Echosync compares the two directories associated with the profile to detect the changes. In the window Result Comparison read the scan results.

If you are satisfied with the comparison, click on the button sync† This synchronization always proceeds in one direction. The files in the source folder always remain untouched and can only be read, only the target files are updated.

Options

Echosync uses VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) from Windows. This allows the app to even copy the files that are locked by the system. In the menu Options you can select an action that the PC should perform when the synchronization command is complete. For example, you can shut down the computer, put it to sleep or close Echosync.

Conclusion

We especially notice the speed and user-friendliness of Echosync. In addition, the tool supports differential synchronization, transferring only the changed files. If you want to set the synchronization automatically at certain times, there is a shortcut to the Task Scheduler of Windows, because the software does not have its own scheduler.

The Compare option scans both directories for differences.
