The ultimate way to freshen up your iPhone lock screen

Your iPhone’s access screen already looks a lot fresher thanks to the arrival of widgets, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be better. There are quite a few limitations to personalizing the widgets on the lock screen.

We’ll walk you through two apps to freshen up your lock screen: a paid option and a free option. These apps are an easy way to give your iPhone a fresh new look.

Make your iPhone lock screen look fresher

Do you also want to make your iPhone look fresher? Here are two tips.

#1 Clear Spaces

You can’t just place the widgets on your iPhone anywhere on the lock screen. The smaller widgets appear in the center of the screen and the larger widgets can only be placed on the left and right sides. Something can be done about this with the (paid) app Clear Spaces.

Clear Spaces is available for 2.50 euros in the App Store. You then only have to add the transparent tiles as a widget. You do this by pressing and holding the lock screen of your iPhone, Select Access screen and under the time add the Clear Spaces widget where you want it.

If the clear widgets don’t appear right away, open the Clear Spaces app and tap the widget center (next to the i). Then tap More and swipe left. Open Settings and tap Refresh widgets. This should fix any display issues.

#2 Widgetsmith

In addition, you can use Widgetsmith’s free functionalities to give the widgets on your iPhone a nicer look. Open the app and tap Lock screen. For example, tap Add Circular Widget to add a round widget. Then choose which widget you want to add.

Then go to the tab theme and choose a background and a font. You can edit even more settings on the other tabs. With the time widget, for example, you set the location and the time format. When you’re done, tap Save.

Press and hold on your iPhone’s lock screen and tap Customize. Tap it Access screen and on Add widgets. Scroll down and tap Widgetsmith. Then tap the added widget twice and select the widget you just created in the app.
