This is how the web version of Apple Music works: music from your browser

Apple Music now has a web version, so you can also listen to music on a Mac or PC that does not have iTunes. In this tip, we will show you how Apple Music web version works.

This is how you use the Apple Music web version

If you wanted to listen to Apple Music on Mac or PC, you were required to install and use iTunes. This is not a problem for your private computer, but in libraries, schools or offices where it is forbidden to install external software, it meant that you did not have access to the music service.

Fortunately, there is now a web version that you can use directly from your browser. Because you don’t have to install anything for this, this makes the music service a lot more accessible, just as competitor Spotify has a similar browser version.

  1. Open an Apple Music page for an artist or album, such as Radiohead via this link;
  2. Log in with your Apple Music account by clicking on ‘sign in’ at the top right;
  3. Enter your email address and password;
  4. You can now listen to Apple Music in your browser.

Since the music comes directly from your browser, there are a number of things to keep in mind. For example, the music stops when you search for another song and refresh the page, there is no music player on screen with which you can pause the music and the browser version does not support AirPlay.

Still, it is a nice addition to Apple Music, which makes the music service accessible in more ways to its ever-growing group of subscribers.
